@eggandburger I did the assembly -> forth -> lisp route once, which was a very cool project that taught me a lot! Now just to glue a virtual computer on either side of the diagram :P

@Vierkantor You can also claim territory of other academics if you stack your books on their desks.

@katnjiapus @anarchiv ha, i could only recall the bananas and made up the meatballs and moose. good to know the nordics are still at it :P

okay, i think i got rid of the worst errors, now just need to figure out why nothing is actually being displayed on the screen

real numbers in name only, for they are neither

Spent the morning looking at LaTeX layout and I have learned a few things:

1) There's a reason everyone uses the same templates like book or memoir: they do an awful lot of the heavy lifting for you.

2) There's more than one way to do things, and many of them have subtle knock-on effects that you won't notice until it's too late.

3) Boy howdy this thing is powerfully addicting. Even something as simple as \lipsum[1-5] in memoir with a little bit of formatting just looks so damn good.

GNU GAS protip: if you need to introduce a local label in a macro "hygienically", you can just use \@ as a numbered label. For example:

.macro car cons, result
cmp \cons, 0
beq \@f // Don't read anything if `\cons' is `nil'.
ldr \result, [\cons, 0]
\@: csel \result, \result, xzr, ne // If \cons is `nil', the answer will be `nil'.
.endm

@phooky I have some good experiences with nasm for x86. But it seems ARMv8 only has GAS, which lacks a lot of features nasm has.

@phooky speaking about obsolete assembler, it is high time that we as a society turn GNU GAS obsolete, with its crappy macros :|

academics signal their prestige by placing stacks of books and papers on their desk. the higher the stack, and the more desk surface covered by the stack, the higher the academic is ranked. when you need to get an extra table because the other one is filled with stacks of books, they make you a professor.

@schratze I don't know! Wiktionary claims "Could you take a selfie of me?" is also considered acceptable by some: en.wiktionary.org/wiki/selfie#

Mastodon is a server for a federated social network: everyone can run a server if they want to, including me. So this is a Mastodon server for me (Vierkantor) and my friends.
